Freakishly Small Hands

Yay! I’m so happy about the positive response to my Omega Phi boys. Now that I know they’ll be accepted, I’ll have more incentive to actually do something with them. For instance, I’ve been planning an issue of Anti-Heroes where they go back to school. Maybe the Omega boys can make their first appearance there as some formidable enemies / fuck-buddies.

In the meantime, because you guys liked that concept, I thought I’d show you where it originally came from. As I said, I have been intrigued by Greek mythology for the better part of my life. I used to sketch modern versions of the deities quite regularly. So, I’m once again opening up the vault of old shyt to show you these scary sketches of the gods. I was probably 17 or 18 when I drew these and I remember it was an attempt at fashion illustration. Pretty embarrassing– I know. Well, I am still somewhat proud of my Hera and Apollo. But yeah, the rest of them look pretty deformed.

Looking back at old sketches is always like looking at haircuts and clothes from old school photos. These are so fun and playful. Mine all look like realy bad wax figures.

Fantastic! I love it so much whenever I get to see your old work. 🙂 It’s like getting to peek into your private archives. So much fun. 🙂 It’s awesome that someone else shared this huge teenage fixation on Greek mythology that I did. I see a lot of similarities between your two different versions of Hermes. Interesting! 🙂 Anyway, they’re all so much fun to study and try to figure out which is which. 🙂 Vulcan was a bit of a surpise. Well, you totally rock! Thanks a million for sharing these!

yeah it is totally like looking at an old yearbook! Lol! As ive said before, i’m a real packrat about my drawing. I think it’s because i pour so much of myself into them, it becomes difficult to just get rid of them- even if they are pretty embarrassing. I just hope no one happens upon this page and thinks thats how i draw now! Haha!

Interesting that u picked up on the similarities between ’98 hermes and 2007 hermes, dreamerboy. I think in the back of my mind i was basing him on this boy i liked in high school. He was cute– looked like one of those an cient roman statues- complete with the boyish looks and light curly hair. I actually have another drawing of hermes (i fhink) in my closet that is the perfect hybrid of these two because it was drawn in like 2001. I’ll see if i can find it.
