Here in my latest commission, the heroic warrior Beowulf takes on a fearsome frost giant! Pretty much followed reference when it came to Beowulf but did kinda have to dig deep creatively to come up with his hairy hunky beast of an opponent. Drawing this BG was my bane but love how it came out in the end, tying everything up in terms of color and scale.
Even without a ton of garments (which magically disappear anyway) Beowulf comes prepared but is no match for big blue’s frost breath! Oh wow, this is great! I feel like you haven’t had a lot of opportunity to draw fantasy/medieval settings! I love the background and the hunky yet menacing frost giant! The touches of pink around his knuckles and extremities are a nice touch, and you know I love all that hair. 😉 I can’t help but wonder though, was the chain mail as hard to draw as it looks? I love it! 🙂
Hey bud! That chain mail was fairly simple using photoshop- the hard part was that BG. I can sometimes get into a BG if it’s pleasant but a tundra is like at the top of my nightmare list. You’re right- I don’t do fantasy enough- even when I do, I tend to modernize it (Supreme Dominion which I’m gonna bring back one of these days!) It was great coming up with a frost giant though– in all actuality whenever I used to see one in media all I could think was “hm– I could do that better…” lol. He was really fun though- all that hair and coming up with the pattern and placement was the hottest part of this drawing for me! Thanks so much for commenting, buddy!
