The Hotness

Maggot’s one of those characters who I thought had tremendous potential but since wrought with strange, ill-conceived writing and art, he ended up just as a odd blip in X-Men history.

The 90’s gave us many strange, almost grotesque new mutant characters. It was a backlash from the Barbie and Ken mutants of old. Skin, Chamber, Penance, Husk, Marrow and Maggot all either had gross powers or an unusual appearance. I responded well to this change. It made sense to me that some “morlock” type characters could be introduced and not be considered villians.

So with Maggot, I definetely loved his crazy power; the fact that he commanded these two insatiable slug-like entities. But when they started talking about his digestive system and all that stupidness, it became too much. I didn’t need to know all that.

His design was also all over the place. Is he big or is he little? Is he blue or is he brown? Why is he totally ripping off Guido’s look? Well, above is my vision of how Maggot should have looked all the time. And don’t forget to ROLL OVER him to see his long African uncut dark ‘n’ lovely penis.

Next up, the hot-headed Brazilian but Roman but British volcanic beauty, Amara AKA MAGMA! I honestly used to be somewhat indifferent to her until I played the revamped version of her in X-Men Legends. She was one of the more fun characters to play in that game. Admittedly, in my drawing, the powered-up version (ROLL OVER) is way more than I drew for any of the past X-Men I’ve drawn. But I really wanted to capture the experience of how awesome she was in that game. So yeah, I am quite proud of the piece.

DAMN! 😉 I've got two orifices he can park it in. I never got into the slug things but I'm seeing him in an all new light now.

Oh wow…I was so wanting to do Maggot one of these days. But you know me – I'ld rather do the big bulked up version. I think the got bigger and blue when his pets consumed large amounts and as he used up the excess material, he got smaller and turned back to his natural color. Anyway, all the "remix" designs look great!
    HUG!

Okay, I finally got to sit down and look over your post this time and…

YOU LIKED MAGGOT?! lol, he creeped me out SO much but I "met" him near the end of his run so I think it's understandable. (I was gaga over Dr. Reyes at the time anyway) He was a neat character all in all. though because you have a point…

Marvel could only do the fashion model form mutants for so long before it became ridiculous. With mutants coming out everyday they're all going to look like big boobed, chiseled pecs gods?

    No way.

And Amara…it's so odd because I loved her character! I mean…the whole thing about not knowing where the hell she was from got old real fast…REAL fast. But her character was kind of refreshing for whatever team she was on.

And she was pretty cool in the X-men Legends game (I bought a playstation 2 JUST so I could play that game! JUST because Storm was in it! In fact I bought my PS1 for the same reason when I found out she was on X-men vs. Street Fighter). He revamping was interesting to see because they took all the complication out of her character and she came out better for it.

Absinthe – HAHA– i know, Maggot was never that hot in the comix. But my hung twinky version totally makes me wanna spread 'em! haha!

Chubtoons – Yea you're right, big blue maggot came from the energy of the slugs. I just thought that was a needless aspect of the power, though. Dude, dont deny us a big bear Maggot! I'd love to see your take!

Jubell- LOL- Nah, dude I HATED AMggot. I just thought he had potential. But I disagreed with like every other decision that was made about him. Maggot and Marrow I thought belonged in Gen X. Reyes definitely belonged in X-Men and was SUCH a breath of fresh air.

I totally agree with your take on Legends Magma. Her comic version IS too complicated. She suffers from a lotta retconning, same as Psylocke and M. I think it's cool when a new writer comes on and works with established history. But when he completely changes/omits it to fit what he wants to do in the present, I find it kinda lazy.
