For the final day of my X-Statix Tribute Remix Series, I’ll give you sexy, woofy Vivisector!
An awesome character with kind of a boring, redundant power, Vivisector was the resident brain of the group but unlike your typical smart-guy of the team, Miles was just as flawed as the rest, typically getting drunk and picking fights with the team to get more fans and air time.
When he and Phat pretend to come out, Vivisector actually stays out and has to deal with the public’s aversion toward the “intellectual gay guy.” That’s what I love about this title. He recognizes that he’s unpopular but can’t seem to do anything about it. So meta. I imagine though, if he was drawn like how I do ‘im, he’d develop a fan base… particularly one of gay otter chasers! 😉

Actually both he AND Phat stayed out from what I recall. They pretended to be a couple but eventually came to the realization that they were gay…but not gay for each other (that was almost the exact wording)
Which was a CA-RAZY moment in comic-dom for me because… it was such an odd conclusion for two characters to come to. Not like when Beast pretended to be gay for political reasons (and to create a stir in the comic book fandom because we all know Marvel is a HUGE-GANTIC ATTENTION WHORE)

Phat went back in briefly. Remember his powers stopped workin’ and he got all weird around Miles– it only lasted an ish or 2. But yea- I loved when he finally came out the 2nd time, X-Statix had 2 gays on the team that WEREN’T dating. So awse!
The Beast gay thing? I totally assumed Marvel was litmus testing us as an audience. I think becasue so many spoke against it, it was reversed. Personally, I don’t want cat-Beast on our side. I’ll take man-Beast or blue-Beast. But the straight can have cat version, blegh.
