It’s the Juggernaut Post, Bitch!

Hey bitches. I feel it’s time to tell you all about the numerous and varied ways the popular X-Men villian, Juggernaut has permeated my life lately.

First things first– what you came here for: the art. Above is my recently drawn cute version of Mr. Marko. He’s a hot one, if you think about it… all big, thick and burly. Rollover to see his cute face. And for the girthy nude version, go to Anti-Heroes.net > Members Gallery > Fan-Boy. Here’s a blurry thumbnail on the left.

I’ve been doing a lot of X-Villians lately and decided to do Cain one day while watching Clean House. Beforehand I had no idea one of my crushes, Matt Iseman was on that show. I’d seen him before on the Sports Soup and was glad to find out he was on Clean House because my ol’ man won’t let me watch Sports Soup. Isn’t he just too cute?! And doesn’t he look just like Juggernaut?! (Well, maybe not so much in these pics.) You have to see him on video. Google him and watch something he’s in. Believe me, he’s totally Juggs– like all tall & wide & blonde with a tiny head. Haha.

And the final thing is this– the I’m the Juggernaut, Bitch viral video that I somehow NEVER SAW ‘TIL NOW, SOME 6 YEARS AFTER IT CAME OUT! My anger over being the last person on Earth to see this subsided when I watched it and couldn’t stop laughing. And now, Vinnie Jones’ line in X-Men 3 actually makes sense to me! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, watch this cuz it’s frikkin’ hilarious.

HAW HAW!

So I got into a really funny debate-gument today about the new hilarious-looking Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon. I showed a friend who is NUTS for Frank Miller’s Batman and all interpretations thereof, including Batman: Dark Knight. He HATED the trailer for Brave/Bold. He literally said “This is the worst thing anyone could ever do. Ever.” I laughed. He asks why I could possibly be pro-Brave/Bold and still like Dark Knight? I said, that I welcome the more light-hearted take on Batman and that the mythology lends itself to different interpretations. I don’t like fans who think just because the newest incarnation is popular and realistic, that all other instances of the franchise are totally invalid.

Of course, I said all this intermixed with bursts of evil laughter because I know this kid really dislikes campy Batman. “Why do you want to see me suffer?” he said. “Why do you want to see my heroes raped and ruined?”

“Because, shit, other people need to see how it feels, goddammit.”

“Ah, so that’s what this is about,” he says. “You just want this cartoon to succeed out of spite for all the crappy X-Men media that was released.”

I tried denying it for a while– saying things like, “Well, I think that creators take a lot of liberties when they are given a franchise to reinterpret. And a lot of the time, they end up alienating people who liked one specific interpretation.”

“So you are glad that I’m not going to like it then?”

“You betcha,” I said. “I hope some people really end up hating it and thinking their favorite character has been ruined, just like how I felt with the X-Men movie and how my partner felt with the new Star Wars movies and so on.”

The discussion was concluded by his assertion that I am an evil, vengeful person who revels in people’s misery. I am okay with that. But in all honesty, I do think this toon looks pretty fun! 🙂

A trailer for King of Fighters 12 has been released and it looks so fucking beautiful, it makes me want to sob.

For those that don’t know, The King of Fighters is a long-running fighting game series produced by SNK/Playmore. But what makes KOF12 so hot is that they’ve set out to make the MOTHER of all 2D fighters, redrawing EVERY sprite in HD and upping the animation frame-rate more than double what it was! What I’m tryna say is that the animation is so good, it frikkin’ looks like you’re playing a Disney movie!

This must come as such bad news for Capcom and the Street Fighter 4 camp, who (controversially) decided to abandon 2D for their popular franchise. They thought 2D was dead. Oh, ye of little faith. Part of me feels bad for Capcom because by making the game 3D, they’re competing with the likes of Soul Calibur and Tekken, a battle they’re destined to lose.

SNK/Playmore is basically “running unopposed!” So, kudos to the folks over at SNK/Playmore for believing in 2D and thusly believing in the fans that made their franchise so popular. And Capcom? Well, sorry ‘cuz Street fighter 4’s gonna look like a hot mess when compared to ANY of the other fighters coming out.

The Pretty COLORS!

Whilst fiendishly perusing the Humplex one day, I came across something that really piqued my interest (other than all the cum drenched hotties, I mean.)

Humbuged had some pics that he’d drawn on his Nintendo DS. Being the annoying guppie that I am, I always have the latest tekkie gizmos. Before I got my iPhone, I had a really amazing pocket PC smart-phone that was super customizable. At the time, I was friggin’ obsessed with finding a good digital painting program for it. But alas, none of them really worked.

I dunno why I was/am so preoccupied with a portable digital painter. So needless to say, when I discovered that I could get one for my trusty lil’ DS, I jumped all over that!

The application is called Colors! and it is a homebrew game created by Jens Andersson. It keeps things incredibly simple for ease of use. And the resulting works can look really amazing. I was never a real lover of any traditional media other than a pens and pencils, but this program makes it look like I can watercolor with the beat of ’em! Haha

My favorite feature of the game is that it records every single brushstroke so you can view an animation of the progress of your drawing! I’m so enamoured with this game, it’s not even funny. The only real problem is since I only really play with it in public (on the subway) I can’t really draw anything all that raunchy. When you have a DS or PSP or whatever, it’s a given that folks are gonna look over your shoulder. I don’t know if I could take the guilt of exposing some impressionable young tyke to a giant cartoon cock.

End of the Year Musings

So just a few things to announce / rant about for the end of the year. Firstly, I’ve got some new figure drawing up for youze guys!

Here’s Gonzalo, a real he-man with amazingly bulgy muscular meaty thighs and thick luscious sable locks.

The following week was Brandon who was… very very fuzzy. I had some difficulty with this model’s face which is why you’ll notice I didn’t often draw his head. He had very big features and although he was pretty cute, I had trouble rendering a realistic likeness. So, I just made him a cartoon. In truth, I think it suits him better than any attempt at a realistic likeness.

I’m finding more and more by watching some of the other artists in the group that I have a unique way of blending stylization with realism. Most of the other artists there either work completey realistic or totally stylized.
Anyhoo, let me know what yalls think. Tons more are up on my site here.

The next thing I want to mention is that my previous excitement over the graphics for Street Fighter 4 is now gone. 1up.com has footage of some in-game play and I have to say… it just looks very very polygonal to me. I mean… it kinda doesn’t look any more advanced than say Rival Schools or Street Fighter EX.

Call me a purist but think I’ve rejoined the “Street Fighter works best in 2D” camp. I mean… imagine a high-res, super-high frame rate Street Fighter with traditionally hand-drawn animation in the quality of something like Samurai Champloo. Now THAT would be groundbreaking. But when asked in the latest issue of EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) why didn’t Capcom just make SF4 entirely 2D, Yoshinori Ono, the game’s lead producer said they’ve “done all they can with 2D” and that they “wouldn’t learn anything new.” Pssh, yeah, way to dodge that question, buddy.

Finally, I’d like to babble on about one more thing. My BIRTHDAY is very close to New Years and all my life, it’s been overshadowed by New Years and to some extent, even Christmas. However, I’m excited about THIS new year because it’s 2008 and 8‘s are my lucky numbers. I was born on 01-08-80 and this year, my 28th BIRTHDAY falls on 01-08-08! So my BIRTHDAY is kindof an anagram of my birthdate! Heh heh!

Oh, and by the way… fan-art makes a great
BIRTHDAY present…. ahem… (cough cough!)

The Buzz Begins

So– about a month ago, Capcom released this promo vid for Street Fighter 4.

It looked really cool, but we had to keep in mind that it WASN’T any indication of in-game play. This week, however, they’ve released a screenshot and MAAAN, it’s startin’ to look good! And I’m not just talkin’ bout Ryu’s bulge either (haha!) Apparently, gameplay will remain 2D based while the sprites and backgrounds will be polygonal.

Usually, I don’t like 3D characters but given the amazingly stylized treatment of this image, I’m going to have to make an exception. It looks as though they’re going for a real painterly look here. That’s something that I always really loved about the series– the art. It was always beautifully stylized, cutting-edge stuff. So let’s hope that Capcom can pull this off. Because if they can, I for one will be overjoyed at the revival of my favorite game series.

The Girls

By | music, rant, videos | 5 Comments
Now it’s time to let you guys in on a long hidden secret about me. I am beyond obsessed with something called Hello!Project.

It’s basically a troop of female Japanese recording artists totaling over 50 members. It started out back in 1998, much like our American Idol. But what happened was, the 5 runners up ended up forming a group called Morning Musume and eventually became much more popular than the girl that won the contest. From then on, the group’s manager, Tsunku has held auditions every year to find new girls to put into the group.

The fun thing about it is that now that there are over 50 girls in it, there are tons of groups. And most of the time, they shuffle the groups’ members around. So you have to follow your favorite girls to whatever group they go to. It’s set up for fans to get obsessive about it (me.)

I’ve been following these girls for almost 10 years now. The girls range in age from 8 to 30. My favorite members are Kei Yasuda, Ai Takahashi, Risa Niigaki, Aya Matsuura, and Miyabi Natsuyaki.

As they have made my favorite genre of music J-POP, I’m sharing with you some of my favorite videos from Hello!Project. I’m really fighting the urge to go on and on and talk about them forever. Gotta reign it in, JC.
